Side Airbags
iSi's side airbags provide individual solutions for use in vehicles to reduce the impact on occupants, particularly in the hip and rib area. On the front seats, the side airbag is mounted directly in the seat and therefore subject to special requirements regarding package and weight. These are achieved in particular through the use of our hybrid gas generator, which combines two technologies.
Head Airbags
As one of the most important components in passive safety, the head airbag is deployed over the window surface of the vehicle, providing protection particularly in side impacts. Using our technology, we can design the necessary restraint effect for the most relevant head positions. We also have a solution in our portfolio for convertible vehicles, where the airbag is integrated into the door in the front row of seats, and deployed directly from the trim in the second row.
Knee Airbags
In addition to protecting the knees and legs, our knee airbags are designed to guide the displacement of the occupant so that the driver and passenger airbags can provide optimal protection. We use standardized components with customized solutions in the airbag and folding areas to provide protection as quickly as possible in the required areas, regardless of the installation position within the instrument panel.
Fond Airbag
With the Fond Airbag, the frontal protection in the second row of seats receives an additional component. The airbag is equipped with a completely new technology that enlarges the effective volume through targeted filling of a tube structure, so that even with a small gas generator, a sufficiently large airbag can be filled and the passenger effectively protected. This combination even allows the entire package to be accommodated in the front row seat.
PRC
In the second row of luxury vehicles, occupants have long enjoyed the comfort of a reclined position when choosing the right seats. This is where the Pelvis Restraint Cushion (PRC) comes into play, lifting the pelvis at the right moment and coupling it to the pelvic belt. This prevents submarining, where the pelvis slides under the belt, and thus helps prevent serious abdominal injuries.
Innovative PSIS Airbags
Modern sensors and control units can already detect an imminent collision of the vehicle and initiate appropriate measures to improve occupant protection. One of these measures is the movement of the occupant towards the center of the vehicle through the PRE-SAFE® Impulse System. This movement increases the distance between the occupants and the intruding structure, thus minimizing the potential for injuries. And if the collision does not occur, the airbag can be reused multiple times after replacing the gas generator.
